Cranston interpreta Lyndon B. Johnson negli undici mesi immediatamente successivi all’assassinio del Presidente John F. Kennedy. Il film biografico segue così l’insediamento di Johnson, allora vicepresidente, le lotte per i diritti civili fino all’approvazione nel 1964 del Civil Rights Act e la campagna elettorale al termine della quale verrà eletto ufficialmente.
