THE END OF THE TOUR racconta i cinque giorni di intervista tra il giornalista di Rolling Stone David Lipsky (Jesse Eisenberg) e l’acclamato scrittore David Foster Wallace (Jason Segel), a seguito della pubblicazione nel 1996 del rivoluzionario romanzo di Wallace “Infinite Jest”. In questi cinque giorni nasce e si sviluppa una profonda amicizia tra i due protagonisti. I due scrittori si scoprono, condividono momenti divertenti e reciproche fragilità nascoste, ma non si saprà mai quanto realmente sinceri siano stati l’uno con l’altro. Incredibilmente, l’intervista non fu mai pubblicata, e le cassette audio su cui vennero impressi quei cinque giorni, finirono nello scantinato di Lipsky. I due non si incontrarono più.
Il film si basa sul libro di Lipsky “Come diventare se stessi”.
